Southwest
Florida International Airport
Located just 45 min from Sanibel and Captiva Island, Southwest Florida
International Airport is the primary airport serving the islands.
Located in Lee County, just 45 min from Sanibel/Captiva. This airport is
served by nearly all major airlines. 239-768-1000
Orlando
International Airport
Located 7 miles south of Orlando. 407-825-2001.
Miami
International Airport
Located 5 miles Northwest of Miami. 305-876-7077.
Due to the location of Sanibel and Captiva Islands, Sanibel Online
highly recommends that you rent a car if you do not already have one.
Most accommodations are not within walking distance of restaurants and
shopping. To help you out, I've included links below to the Rental Car
agencies available at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort
Myers:
You will need a valid driver's license, proof of auto insurance and a
major credit card. Some rental agencies also have a minimum age
requirement. Most major car rentals are available at the airports above.
Please make reservations in advance.
For those of you that will not have a car, you can use these folks for
transportation to the islands.
Getting here by Car...
Interstate 75: Take Exit 21 (Daniels Parkway) west to Summerlin
Road. Turn Left on Summerlin Road and follow to the Sanibel Causeway ($3
toll). Drive across the Causeway onto Sanibel Island.
Interstate 95: Arriving in Florida from the north, take I-95
South toI-4. Take I-4 West, through Orlando to I-75 and head South. Then
Follow the directions above. From the South (Miami) Take I-95 North to
Fort Lauderdale and follow the directions to I-75 west.
